The Entourage Effect & CBD

By Great Canadian Herb

With the overwhelming number of CBD products out there, it’s important to understand which types will work best for you and the effects that each has.

By understanding the Entourage Effect, it is much easier to choose CBD products that suit your needs.

Cannabis plants contain more than 120 different phytocannabinoids. These phytocannabinoids work to influence your endocannabinoid system, which works to keep your body in balance, commonly known as homeostasis.

The most popular types of cannabis products are whole-plant or Full Spectrum. In general, Full Spectrum products are recommended because most users report they are most effective.

Over the past few years, more and more people are turning to Full Spectrum products instead of Broad Spectrum or CBD Isolate.

This is because Full Spectrum contains all of what the cannabis plant offers - trace amounts of THC accompanied by high amounts of other cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids that are synergistically important to the quality and effectiveness of cannabis.

It's also what contributes most to the Entourage Effect.

What is the Entourage Effect?

The Entourage Effect is a term that refers to the synergistic effect of cannabis constituents working together in a way that amplifies their therapeutic benefits.

Cannabinoids, terpenes and other components all interact with each other to produce beneficial effects.

When all of these components work together, the effects are significantly amplified, much more so than any one single compound could achieve on its own.

It is one of the reasons that Full Spectrum products have become so popular and continue to gain mainstream traction.

CBD Isolate and Broad Spectrum products lack this synergistic effect typically found in Full Spectrum or whole plant products due to extensive processing to remove as much THC as possible.

Hemp plants naturally produce various cannabinoids and terpenes in several concentrations. Therefore, processing the plant to create a desired final product will alter these natural balances, which could negatively impact the effectiveness of a CBD product.

That doesn’t mean that these types of CBD products can’t be effective, but they don't have the full power of the Entourage Effect at play.

Why should you care?

Although the Entourage Effect is becoming more widely known, there are still many people who aren’t aware of its importance.

This lack of knowledge often leads to consumers buying CBD products that don't provide them with all of the benefits they were looking for. So why would you want to buy something that isn't as effective as it could be?

Luckily, there is an easy way to avoid this issue. If you’re looking for CBD with the most therapeutic potential, stick with Full Spectrum products, which contain all of the natural compounds that occur naturally in cannabis plants.

Broad Spectrum or CBD Isolate products aren’t as effective and may provide less therapeutic benefit.

Final thoughts on the Entourage Effect

The bottom line is that whole-plant products will be more likely to give you all of the benefits that cannabis has to offer.
